My Role : Communication Designer

Initial stage

Early stage sketches

In the early phases, I focused on identifying emotionally resonant moments from films that deeply impacted my perspective on love and vulnerability. Through rough compositions and minimal linework, I explored framing, placement, and expression—always keeping in mind the subtle yet powerful influence of a 70mm window into someone else's world.

My sketches leaned into storytelling through silhouettes and minimal facial detail to maintain universality, allowing viewers to project their own emotions onto each scene. These early visuals laid the foundation for how I could visualize the depth of affection without overly dramatizing it.

Second stage

Finalising the design style

Once I moved past the sketching phase, I created a grayscale version to ensure consistent form and composition. However, after reviewing it, I realized I was still unintentionally portraying the characters as separate rather than unified. That wasn't the intention—nor was it what the films portrayed.

But something was still missing..

Final Outcome

Key Learnings

Cinema as an Educator:

Films have the power to normalize and challenge mindsets—a single frame can ignite introspection.

Visual Storytelling for Advocacy:

Thoughtful design can help bridge emotional and cultural gaps, making people relate to perspectives they hadn’t considered before.

Breaking Stereotypes Through Design:

Instead of highlighting LGBTQ+ individuals as "different," showcasing them as part of universal human experiences makes the message stronger.
